INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO [18/5/11] TO BE COMPLETED

WHAT ARE SOME ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL VIDEO?
  • Digital Video can come in many formats such as HD
WHAT IS MEANT BY FRAME RATE IN VIDEO?
The frame rate is the number of frames or images that are projected or displayed per second

ARE ALL VIDEOS/MOVIES THE SAME FRAME RATE, EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER:

WHAT IS MEANT BY RESOLUTION, HOW IS IT MEASURED:
  • Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image 
  • Resolution is measured in Pixels (or Picture Element)

WHAT IS THE COLOUR SYSTEM CALLED RGB:
The principal that each colour is a composition of the colours, RED, GREEN and BLUE, each is a created by having a dark canvas (or design area) and then adding red, green and blue elements


EXPLAIN THE VIDEO STANDARS, PAL, NTSC AND SECAM:
  • PAL: short for Phase Alternating Line is an analog colour television encoding system, sed to broadcast through-out the world   
  • NTSC: named for the National Television System Committee, is the analog television system that is used in most of North America, most of South America, Burma, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, the Phillippines , and some Pacific island nations and territories
  • SECAM: or SÉCAM (Séquentiel couleur à mémoire,[French for "Sequential Color with Memory") is an analog colour television system first used in france. 

WHICH STANDARD DO WE USE IN AUSTRALIA?
PAL is used in Australia

WHAT IS AN IEEE 1394 PORT?
an IEEE 1394 port or "FireWire" originated from apple, and allows the connection between peripherals  and a computer (eg. plugging in a camera to upload the photos)

WHY DO DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERAS USE VIDEO COMPRESSION?
Video camera's use compression so you are able to store more video, there are many way that video can be compressed.

DESCRIBE WHAT A CODEC IS?
a Codec is used to describe anything which turns data into another form for storage or transmission then changes it back for use.


WHAT IS MEANT BY "GENERATION LOSS". WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?
"The loss of quality when copying or printing data. The more copies are used, rather than originals, and saved the higher the quality loss. // In video terminology it is video degradation caused by successive recordings from the original source (dubs from dubs). Generation loss also results from analog duplication of original video recording."
 Generation Loss is the loss of quality in informatiom due to reproduction, it happens all over due to ever growing poluations on the world wide web (www.)
